General Motors Foundation, William J. Clinton Foundation to Deliver 30 GMC Trucks, Supplies, to Haiti

Sierra Pickups to Arrive in Miami for NFL Haitian Relief Effort

DETROIT (Feb. 3, 2010) - The General Motors Foundation is donating 30 GMC trucks to the Haitian relief effort to assist victims and aid workers in the aftermath of the January 12 earthquake that struck the Caribbean nation, following President Bill Clinton's recent public call for vehicles to support recovery efforts. Two of the trucks will arrive in Miami on February 3 and will be present at the NFL Little Haiti Outreach Event held at the Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center, 5000 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, FL at 4:00 p.m. EST. NFL players will receive a tour of the Center and will reach out to sponsors and collect relevant donations for the Little Haiti community.

"Everyone in America has been affected in some way by this tragedy," said GM Vice President Sales, Service and Marketing and GM Foundation Board member Susan Docherty, "including GM employees, families and friends. GMC and the NFL are going to visit the heart of the Haitian community in South Florida to show our support."

The Sierra pickup trucks will arrive with supplies such as tarps and tents donated from Florida GMC dealers and their communities. The pickups will arrive in Haiti mid-February at the request of Edmond Mulet, acting head of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Haiti. This is part of a coordinated effort of the GM Foundation and the William J. Clinton Foundation, in response to the dire need for trucks to transport supplies to survivors. The William J. Clinton Foundation is providing transit of the vehicles to Haiti. President Clinton currently serves as U.N. Special Envoy for Haiti.

"Immediate needs in Haiti include basic supplies and reliable transportation that can handle rugged and mountainous terrain," said GM Foundation Chairman John T. Montford. "We believe the donation of 30 GMC trucks can have an immediate and beneficial impact on relief efforts in Haiti."

The donation of the trucks is a contribution from the General Motors Foundation GM Global Aid program.

The GM Foundation's total giving for Haitian Relief is $100,000. An additional $250,000 was raised on Saturday, January 23, by the auction of a limited-edition Chevrolet Corvette at the 39th annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction. Additional donations are being collected at U.S. auto shows. All monies for Haiti relief efforts will be presented to the American Red Cross.-Quoting www.GM.com

Four GMC Vehicles Awarded Consumer Guides 2010 Best Buy and Recommended Award

Consumer Guide named four GMC vehicles to its annual Best Buy and Recommended Award list. The 2010 GMC Acadia and Yukon were awarded top honors as "Best Buys" in the midsize and large SUV class, and the 2010 Terrain and Sierra were named as "Recommended Buys" in the midsize SUV and large pick up class.

"We are pleased that four GMC models received Consumer Guide's 2010 Best Buy and Recommended Award," said Brian Sweeney, general manager of Buick GMC. "Consumer Guide editors select these vehicles based on factors such as performance, reliability, handling and affordability, which are the same factors that our customers rate as key reasons they chose a GMC vehicle."

The Best Buy and Recommended Award is Consumer Guide's highest ranking. The annual award is given by Consumer Guide's staff of ten full-time automotive editors who evaluate the vehicles on factors including performance, handling, reliability, ease of use, comfort, ability to meet everyday needs and value for the dollar.
